Connect tumour profiling to a review pathway.

Define the tumour context, specimen availability and purpose of testing before comparing panels. A programme brief should explain how results will reach the treating team and which evidence, treatment access or trial criteria will be reviewed after a finding is reported.

Tumour biomarker testing may help identify treatment options or clinical trials. It differs from inherited-risk testing, and finding a biomarker does not guarantee that a matched treatment will work.

Questions for the programme brief

  1. Which tumour and specimen?

Confirm tissue or blood requirements, sample adequacy review and the questions the proposed assay can address.

  2. How is clinical relevance reviewed?

Identify who reviews variant evidence, uncertain findings and possible inherited-risk implications.

  3. What happens after a result?

Map the clinical discussion, relevant treatment or trial access, and the reporting limitations that must accompany the result.

What to prepare for review
